[Novel] American Psycho (Bret Easton Ellis)

American PsychoA novel about a life so vapid and superficial that the few scenes of gratuitous violence it offers feel more like a welcome liberation rather than something upsetting. Despite being classified as a horror novel, the way American Psycho makes you re-consider the capitalistic values is more akin to literary books.

Positive: Negative:
Fairly engrossing mystery/horror plot The attention to superficial details (you always get told what label suit everyone is wearing) while deliberate grows quite tiresome
Vague ending provides two completely different stories depending on how you interpret it Extremely slow pace
Many delicious depictions of gratuitous violence
Thought-provoking on capitalistic values
