Tsuyokiss

TsuyokisuTsuyokiss (Strong Kiss) is likely the most cherished Takahiro’s (タカヒロ) romantic comedy in Japan, though his other work, Maji Koi, seems to be better known in the west. Anyway, the guy has a good sense of humor and is able to write strong female characters, but his story concepts usually leave much to be desired.

From the very first moment you start the vn you are sucked straight into the happy-go-lucky world through likable characters, nice cheerful music, gorgeous bright visuals and good jokes. The story itself is nothing special, just your usual school romance kind of affair, but the cast offer a surprising amount of complexity and depth, making the romantic angst moments much more emotionally involving and effective than one would expect from a work of such a seemingly light tone. There is even a very shrewd, somewhat dark twist in the route of one character that got me completely off-guard.

All in all, Tsuyokiss is a great choice if you’re looking for some light-hearted comedy and romance. Just don’t go for it expecting to find something particularly deep.
